Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA on February 1, 1976. He then moved to Roselle, New Jersey when he was 3 months old. Phil was introduced to the wonderful game of poker at the young age of eight by his grandfather. Phil and his grandfather would play five-card stud, but his grandfather would cheat to show Phil the dangerous events that could occur in a simple game of Poker. This introduction to poker by Phil's grandfather is what got him very interested in poker. As a teenager, Phil would tell family and friends that one day his dreams will come true, and he will become a professional Gambler. Before Phil had started his poker career, he worked as a telemarketer.
At the age of 18, Phil had gone and acquired a fake ID, so he could finally play competitive poker, this is when he had been nicknamed "No Home Jerome". Phil began to gamble at Atlantic City’s casinos. Just like the average beginner, Phil frequently lost many of his poker games. Like today’s entire great poker player, Phil learned from his mistakes, and improved his playing strategies tremendously. Phil moved to Atlantic City at the age of 20, to pursue his poker career.
After turning 21, Phil started to compete in the World Series of Poker. Phil experienced success very quickly. He made two final tables in his first year competing in the World Series of poker, one of those which led him to winning his first World Series of poker bracelet. Phil felt very confident in his ability to play poker, so he decided to start playing in any high stake poker tournaments he could find at the time. Phil tied the world record for most "World Series of Poker bracelets won in a year", in 2002. He is currently tied with Phil Hellmuth and Ted Forrest. The bracelets were won in three different games, SHOE, Seven card stud, and seven card stud hi-lo. Phil Ivey won his most recent bracelet in 2005, this bracelet was won in the $5000 Pot Limit Omaha Event.
In 2006, Phil Ivey was invited to attend the First European Masters tournament. In the vent, he advance to the final table, but finished in 7th place. Phil sat with: Gus Hansen, John Juanda, and Tony G., at The Poker Channel’s Million Dollar Cash Game in the same London trip. He won that event and earned $100,000 for himself. At the 2006 World Series, Phil unfortunately didn't win any bracelets.
In January of 2007, Phil showed all of his fans that he could take on some of the best poker stars. Phil won the "Earphone Please” Tournament during NBC's poker after dark and won $120,000. The money was good, but Phil believed that Defeating Phil Hellmuth, Sam Fahra and Mike Matusow was better than anything money could buy.
Phil is not only known for his great victories, he is also known for his bad luck during the world poker tour. Phil Ivey has made it to many World Poker tour final tables, but unfortunately for him, he has lost them all. Phil is also known to play the 7-2, the worst possible hand in a poker game, but Phil plays that hand as if he was 100% sure he was going to win the pot.

Around the poker table Phil is a very aggressive player. The look that he gives his opponents shows no emotion, even if he has just won a $200,000 pot. Players sometime have trouble trying to figure out his game, because he is always so focused and shows no emotion while playing, trying to pull a bluff on Phil, is like trying to take a lions food... just not going to happen. Phil builds his chip stack very fast, and because of his aggressive playing style, he is not afraid to throw all those chips in the middle with 7-2. Phil doesn't have a specific strategy, so it makes hard for his opponents to build strategies against him, you'll never know when he is bluffing, or if he as pocket aces.
Obviously outside of the poker table he's a good caring guy. He is married to his high school sweetheart, and is the father of his child. Phil and his family now live in Las Vegas, Nevada, he now plays the largest cash games at the Bellagio. Phil is also a huge Los Angeles Lakers fan, you may sometimes see him wearing the Los Angeles Lakers jersey. Phil Ivey has been named the Tiger Woods of Poker; most would agree that he as an overall amazing poker player. Phil has recently taken up golf; I think he should just stick to poker. Phil Ivey enjoys many things, he doesn't just play poker, he enjoys basketball, golf, working out and watching movies.
Phil Ivey is just an amazing poker player, he has an aggressive and unique style, and that’s what makes him so good at what he does for a living, he is always focused and always has his eyes on the prize, and he never backs down. Even though he lost some money in the early stages of his career, he has made up for it with the $7,000,000 he has earned during his career.
